I don't think enough people remember church and state are supposed to be separate. As in your religious beliefs, which no one is required to follow, shouldn't influence laws. If you want a country in which religion dominates the law, please look at countries who do that and tell me how you'd like that for yourself. Sure it starts with beliefs you can follow. But then would we stone to death women filing for divorce? Would we legalize having multiple wives but ban two men or two women in true love from getting married? How about clothing made from different kinds of fabric? Eating shrimp? Where does it end? Religious freedom means no one can stop you from worshipping whoever, wherever, whenever, however you want to. But it also means you can't force anyone to follow your religious beliefs. If we're basing laws based on them, doesn't that mean you're forcing us to follow them? If a Muslim tried making hijabs mandatory, everyone would lose their shit and it would never be legalized. It's no different.
