I have a plan. If I ever win the lottery, I'm buying a house that needs work and I'm fixing it up. I could afford to buy one already done, but where's the fun in that? Plus I can make it my own and have a great story if I spend months renovating it. I admit, I don't know anything about remodeling houses, construction, or anything like that. Obviously, I'd need a lot of professionals. Electrician, plumber, roofer, contractor, landscaper, flooring people, and God knows who else. But I want to do that. Buy a house on a good piece of land, most of the structure already there, and get it fixed the way I need it. I want it close to work so I don't have to go far in the winter. I have ideas for what I want in my head but really no solid plan. I should probably stop watching so many house renovation shows.

  • You know you can hire a professional architect to incorporate all the unusual stuff you want into a new house and the end result is going to be a lot better than some half-assed cob of trying to remodel an existing home around building codes and homeowners groups.

  • Why don't you just build a house, instead of renovating a old one, wouldn't that be much more fun?
